About Us

I have always had a love of dogs. Having grown up with horses and competed very successfully for most of my life, I was in need of a change of pace. So it was only a matter of time till I discovered the wonderful world of Show Dogs.

Over the past twenty five years I have been lucky to be involved with some wonderful people and some sensational dogs from many different breeds, including Afghan Hounds, Bichon Frise, Borzoi, Boxers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Irish Setters, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and for the past 15 years English Pointers.

I was first introduced to this wonderful breed after searching for a short coated breed that fitted in with my busy lifestyle, and that was it - I was hooked! HUGE thanks to Colleen Dewson (Arista Pointers) for fueling this passion, by allowing me the pleasure of showing Shelsea, who started my obsession.

There is however, more this kennel; my husband James (our three human children) and our kennel partner Julie Manser (who heads up Aspyre Australia).

James was born in South Africa, into a family of dog enthusiasts, even at an early age he was surrounded with the Champion Boxers & Labradors bred by his parents and their mentor (Anne Carkeet - Mazarat Boxers). So there was no surprise when I first mentioned dog showing, that he rolled his eyes in disbelief that after all this time he had fallen for crazy dog show person!! He has needless to say become an integral part of Aspyre's journey, and along with our 3 children (Hadley, Fleur and Archer) share my vision to produce exceptional representatives of our beloved Pointer breed, be that a champion in the show or obedience rings, worlds best bed or lap dog, race winning sled dog, or even a much needed service dog.

In early 2015 I was contacted by a friend of a friend wanting a pointer to show... and the rest they say is history.
Julie Manser is no newbie to the show scene, having shown Afghans and Boxers (amongst other breeds) over the years. Her original interest was in our handsome Ike (whom we had just sold to overseas interests at the time), so instead I offered her his daughter Molly (Aust Gr Ch Aspyre Ewenique) to campaign in Adelaide. Molly took the South Australian show scene by storm, and quickly finished her Australian Championship, and now subsequent GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP.

So when the opportunity for us to move overseas arose it made total sense to invite Julie to become an official partner in Aspyre, as recognition for all her hard work and dedication to our dogs. So whilst I might remain the brains behind the breeding operation, Julie is definitely the lead when it comes to showing and managing the team. We are so very thankful for everything Julie has done for us, our kennel name and our dogs.

In 2018 we were lucky enough not only to be named TOP POINTER BREEDER IN AUSTRALIA but also have the NO. 1 POINTER IN AUSTRALIA* in Klooney (Aust Sup Ch Aspyre On The Tip Of Ur Tongue).

Our Vision

Our aim is to produce quality pointers from proven lines, with a focus on maintaining correct breed type, sound temperaments and working ability. Our dogs combine some of the very best bloodlines Australia and the world have to offer, with a strong English influence.

We have been lucky enough to secure frozen semen from a selection of dogs from around the world, and we are sure that they will prove very instrumental in our future success.

All our dogs come from carefully selected lines and are DNA profiled, health tested and hip scored before breeding.
Health testing is not yet mandatory in Pointers, we however choose to do so. This screening allows us to make informed decisions in regards to our breeding programme, and helps us produce what we hope will be healthy, happy puppies.

We are enjoying our time as custodians of this majestic breed, and look forward to what the future holds.

Our Thanks

Finally we would also like to thank all our family, friends and mentors who have helped us along the way.
We simply could not have come so far without you.

Thank you all so very much

Alicia & James Lumsden (and Hadley, Fleur, Archer) & Julie Manser
